  • Mark Cutifani – CEO AngloGold Ashanti

    A mining engineer by training with several published papers and presentations, Mark was appointed to the Board of AngloGold Ashanti on 17 September 2007 and as Chief Executive Officer on 1 October 2007. His considerable experience in mining goes as far back as 1976. In that time, he has spent over 34 years in operations, business development and corporate roles with responsibilities across 6 continents, more than 25 countries producing more than 20 commodities. Prior to joining AngloGold Ashanti, he was Chief Operating Officer at CVRD Inco, a Toronto based company, where he was responsible for Vale's global nickel business. Before Vale's takeover of Inco, he was Inco's Chief Operating Officer.
Prior to his Vale and Inco roles, he held senior executive positions with the Normandy Group, Sons of Gwalia, Western Mining Corporation, Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines and CRA (Rio Tinto). Mark is also very active in the industry associations and educational institutions and is currently a Vice President of the South African Chamber of Mines, an Executive member of Business Leadership South Africa (and the designated spokesman for health reform in SA) and is involved in or on advisory committees with the University of Pretoria(SA), University of Cape Town (SA,), FDC (Brazil) and Kellogg (US).
