Peter Craven

General Manager, Business DevelopmentPeter Craven graduated in Chemical Engineering in 1977 at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. He held production positions at Anglo American gold and uranium mines, and corporate technical and business development positions at Samancor - the chrome and manganese producer. He then joined Gencor in 1990, as Senior Consulting Metallurgist responsible for their gold mines in South Africa, Ghana and Indonesia.
When Gencor acquired Billiton in 1997, he initially assumed the position of Senior Consulting Metallurgist for Billiton's copper operations, and subsequently General Manager of Billiton Minerals Technology. After the merger with BHP in 2001, he was appointed Vice President, Technology for BHP Billiton. He is currently General Manager, Business Development at Mintek – the South African state-owned minerals technology institute.
During his career he has served on the boards of The Rand Refinery, Intergold, the Nuclear Fuels Corporation of South Africa, Billiton Jersey and Alliance Copper. He is a registered Professional Engineer in South Africa and Chartered Engineer in the UK.
